
Ret M/Sgt Jackie B. (Jack) Jones, 84 of Tampa passed away, January 3, 2021 after a brief illness. Jack was a proud veteran serving 26 years in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1980 at MacDill AFB. While on active duty he was stationed at a variety of places such as Hawaii, North Carolina, South Carolina and Peshawar Air Station, Peshawar West Pakistan. After a career in the hospital and dental clinic at MacDill, he continued his services to country by working for Civil Engineering at MacDill. His final accomplishment was his work at U.S. Central Command from 1988 to 2005. He was an active member of the Hugh Gilbert Strickland American Legion Post 138 mostly recently as their Chaplin. Jack was also a member of PTF United Lodge 153 F&AM as a 32nd degree Mason, Tampa Scottish Rite and the Egypt Temple Shrine.
Jack was an avid NASCAR fan especially when it came to Dale Earnhardt Sr. Some of his best times were at the track in Daytona or Charlotte.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother Horace Jones Sr and Margaret Parker Jones of Goldsboro, North Carolina, his brother Horace Jones Jr and nephew Mike Jones both of Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Jack is survived by his number one girl of 59 years, Patricia O’Neal Jones, daughter Joy Jones and son Kenneth (Buddy) Jones (Sherry), sister in law Diane Jones and niece Cheri Jones both of Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa.
