passed away peacefully on July 20, 2016 at Horizon Bay Assisted Living Facility in Tampa surrounded by two of her beloved children. Marie was born on November 1, 1930 (All Saints' Day as she loved to point out) in Waltham, MA, where she spent the early years of her life. After graduation from Regis College, she married the love of her life, John Comfort Menton in 1953 and they were best friends and constant companions until John's passing in February of 2012. Marie deeply missed John and took great comfort in her strong belief that they would be reunited. After the birth of their first child Timothy, John's career with the FBI resulted in a permanent move for the family from the Boston area, but Marie remained always proud of her Boston roots and never surrendered the remnants of her Boston accent. She cherished her many returns to that area where much of her extended family still remains. Marie fondly remembered going to Red Sox games with her father and dearly loved her four sisters. Staying in contact with her sisters was always very important to her. Her Irish Catholic heritage was a source of great pride and a frequent subject of conversation with friends and family. In addition to their son Timothy, Marie and John had three other children John Stephen, David, and Gail, and ten grandchildren, affectionately known as the ten Saints. Marie and John shared a strong faith and always provided a positive example of love and caring to their children and grandchildren. They spent most of their parenting years in Miami where they were actively involved in the Visitation Catholic Church community and in the association of FBI agents. After retirement, Marie and John moved to Melbourne where they spent many happy years together and loved having their home serve as a gathering place for friends and family. They had a broad circle of vibrant and life long friends with whom they shared many great memories. Marie was a dedicated and loyal friend to the many who trusted and relied upon her through good times and bad. She was also a nurturing and committed mother, a great cook (especially famous for her delicious spaghetti and meatballs), and an unwavering pillar of virtue. After her faith, most important to Marie was being a loving and committed wife to John and everyone who knew them recognized their deep and lasting commitment. She is survived by her four children, Timothy, Stephen (Jane), David, and Gail (William); ten grandchildren, Sara, Megan, Ryan, Jane Darby, Caroline, John, Zachary, Elijah, Christine and John, who all loved her very much and will miss her deeply. She is also survived by her sister Jane O'Brien of Norwell, MA and brother-in-law The Honorable Paul Menton of Watertown, MA, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church on Saturday, August 13 at 1 PM. Arrangements are being handled by Blount & Curry Funeral Home - Macdill Chapel 813-876-2421
