Kuharchek, Peter C. III, 75, of Tampa, FL, formerly of Tire Hill PA died suddenly on March 31, 2023. Born in Johnstown, PA on 11/12/1947. Preceded in death by loving parents Hilda (Zambotti} and Peter. Survived by sister Sonja Jenney, West Falmouth, Ma. and brother Terry, Davidsville Pa., nephews Sean, Pete, Paul and wife Abby, and great nephew James and great niece Sophia.
Pete was a graduate of Conemaugh Township High School Davidsville, Pa. where he was a three-sport standout in football wrestling and track. He was awarded a full football scholarship to George Washington University and ended his playing and academic career at the University of Tampa (1969). He was inducted into the University of Tampa Athletic Hall of Fame on October 17, 2002. Pete led the 1967 Spartans in tackles and was selected by coaches and players the Best Defensive Player. In 1968 he led the team (7-3), along with his good friend Ron Brown, in most tackles and best defensive player.
Pete was a lifelong football coach with a career in the industry that lasted nearly 50 years starting at Tampa Catholic High School in 1972. College coaching stops included the University of Kentucky, Wisconsin Eau Claire, Holy Cross, East Tennessee State, Memphis State, UTEP and Louisiana Tech. Professional football coaching jobs included stints with the Tampa Bay Bandits, BC Lions, Orlando Thunder, Rhein Fire (Head Coach), Tampa Bay Storm, Toronto Argonauts, Omaha Nighthawks and the XFL.
Pete enjoyed golfing with his good friends Al, Ritchie, Rocky etc., going to Tampa Bay Downs, watching football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Wake Forest Demon Deacons and taking long walks. We would like to thank all of his Tampa and Tire Hill friends for all of their kind words and sympathies. No viewing is scheduled. Private services and celebrations of his life will be held at a later date.
