Allen James Mertz

Funeral services for Allen J. Mertz, 76, of Rogers will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday at First Baptist Church in Rogers with Rev. Will Passmore officiating. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery. Mr. Mertz died Thursday at his residence. Mr. Mertz was born in Taylor to R.H. Mertz and Mary Frieda Walther Mertz. He lived in Rogers most of his life. He graduated from Rogers High School, where he had participated in all sports. He served in the National Guard for 6 years. He married his High School Sweetheart Joyce Hill Sept. 6, 1953. He worked for Newton Neroc Manufacturing for seventeen years and retired as Quality Control Manager of Duplex Products after eighteen years. He was also a farmer and rancher. He attended First Baptist Church of Rogers. He loved to fish and play golf. Survivors include his wife Joyce Mertz of Rogers; one son Kevin Mertz of Holland; two daughters Debbie Grieder of Seguin and Judy Nichols of Waco; one sister Julia Hillyard of Troy; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Leland Jungmann Jr., Ronald Jungmann, Craig Sebek, Darren Sebek, Larry Clowers and Jamie Clowers. Honorary pallbearers will be Milton Wendler, Doyle Ray, H.H. Wright, Greg Kiefer, Bubba Hill, Lane Kennedy and Ronnie Wimberly. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Rogers. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
