

Betty Jo (Alden) Logsdon, 88, passed away August 28th at her home after a long illness. Betty was born in Dallas, Texas, on February 24, 1926 to Leon L Alden, Jr. and Myrtle (Magee) Alden. She was a long-standing member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) through her direct line of John and Priscilla (Mullins) Alden of the Mayflower. Before graduating from Southern Methodist University with a degree in Comparative Literature, Betty married Vail E. Logsdon on February 27, 1946 in a ceremony at her parent's home. After graduation, Betty and Vail moved to Austin, Texas so Vail could get his degree in architecture. While in Austin, three of their children were born and the last one was born after they moved to Temple, Texas. Throughout her life, Betty enjoyed her clubs and friends. She was a member of a variety of clubs and organizations that exemplified her broad areas of interest: Pi Phi Sorority, Garden Club of Temple, Women's Federation of Clubs, Temple Boys Choir, Cultural Activities Center, Cow Ladies Club, and the Wednesday Club. She enjoyed being an amateur photographer and traveling. She had a passion for the care and preservation of the deer and wild turkeys on her property increasing the population of the Eastern Turkey. Preceding her in death were her husband, Vail E. Logsdon; a son, Neil Edward Logsdon; her parents; aunts, Inez Hummelbaugh and Elizabeth "Aunkie" Magee; and a granddaughter, Caitlin Magee Williams. Surviving her are three children: Gary A. Logsdon and wife, Susan of Rogers, Arkansas; Jeanne Logsdon of Mauriceville, Texas, and Lynn (Logsdon) Williams of The Woodlands, Texas. Grandchildren are Matthew M. Williams and wife, Erin, of Bastrop, Texas and Elizabeth J. Ketrick and husband, Brian, of The Woodlands, Texas. She had four great grandsons, Asher Vail Williams, Jack Alden Ketrick, Charles Michael Ketrick, and Grayson Hunter Williams. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 31st at Scanio Harper Funeral Home from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The funeral service will be the following day, September 1st at 10:00 a.m. at Scanio Harper. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Belton Volunteer Fire Department or your favorite charity.
