

Billy Senkel, age 86 of Morgan's Point Resort, died Saturday, January 19, 2013 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 22, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Pastor Patricia Dietrich officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Mr. Senkel was born April 16, 1926 in Milam County to Will R. and Lydia Senkel. He was a graduate of Rosebud High School and received a bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State College. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII. He married Rose Petru on October 19, 1945. He was a police officer in Dallas for 26 years. He was riding in the pilot car of the motorcade when President Kennedy was assassinated in November, 1963. He retired as a detective sergeant in 1976. After retirement they moved to Morgan's Point Resort where in 1977, he went to work as a police officer, later police chief and then municipal judge. He also served as city manager. He was a former member of the Optimist Club in Morgan's Point. Survivors include his wife, Rose Senkel of Morgan's Point, one son, Norman Senkel, three grandchildren, Melissa Senkel, Robert Senkel and Will Senkel all of Georgetown and one sister, Lucille Mueck and husband, George of Sealy.
