
Graveside services for Charles Price Spivey, of Moffat, will be held at Prairie Hill Cemetery, Limestone County, near Mexia at 10:00 A.M. Thursday July 5, 2007. A Memorial service will follow at Prairie Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Sain and Brett Spivey officiating. Charles was born to C.C. and Mae Spivey in Limestone County on September 25, 1919 and died at home on July 2, 2007 surrounded by his family. Charles attended Kilgore Jr. College and then served in the C.C.C. Later he joined the TX National Guard and was called to duty for World War II. Charles served in the 143rd Infantry, and he saw action in North Africa and Italy and was awarded the Silver Star for bravery. On September 26, 1940, he married Florence Graves. To this union, Charles Ed was born May 5, 1946. Together, in 1953, Charles and Florence started the Charles Spivey Insurance Agency, and in 1956, he added the Charles Spivey Real Estate Agency. In 1980, they retired to Lake Belton where they enjoyed fishing, traveling, and making lasting memories with their family. He was a longtime member of Civitan International, where he served as president of the Waco chapter and Texas governor. His faithful wife and companion of 56 years, Florence Graves, died on February 17, 1997. On March 19, 2000 he married Sarah Harle. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Florence, his brother Conner, and his sister Olva B. He is survived by his wife, Sarah, his son Charles Ed and Wife Sue, Granddaughter Carrie Kuehl and husband Sloan of Mart; grandson, Brett Spivey and wife, Julie and great-granddaughter, Emma Joy of Waco; sister Jewel Harden; and sister, Sally Sain and husband, Rev. Fred. Papa's generous spirit and loving guidance made a great impact on all his friends and family. Honorary pallbearers are Charles' closest friends, his Friday night poker buddies. The family expresses special thanks to Scott and White Hospice, all of Charles' caregivers, and to Keith Barnes for his loving care given to our family through the years. Donations may be made to Scott and White Hospice of Temple, Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, or Prairie Hill Baptist Church. Scanio Harper Funeral Home of Temple is in charge of arrangements.
