
Dale William Yates, Sr. Dale William Yates, Sr., 91 of Temple died Thursday January 24, 2008 at his residence. Services for Mr. Yates will be held at 2:00 PM Monday January 28, 2008 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Temple with Rev. Don Boesel officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Yates was born in Celina, Texas January 15, 1917 the son of George and Jewel Yates. He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II having served five years in Europe and also served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Texas National Guard. He married Anna Jean Gould October 2, 1942 who preceded him in death in 1989. He later married his present wife Ruth Faidley Maddux in 1991. He was named Optimist of the year and was President of the Optimist Club. He was a member of the Temple Chamber of Commerce, and was past director of the United Fund. Mr. Yates was the past president of the Bell County Cancer Society, was the banking chairman of the DWI task force in Bell County he was president of the Temple Industrial Foundation and a past chairman of the Bell Chapter of the American Red Cross. Mr. Yates was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Temple having served as Sunday School Superintendent for 20 years and was chairman on the Advisory Board of the San Antonio District Church of the Nazarene. Yates served as vice president of First National Bank in Temple and was also elected president of the board in 1980. In 2007 he was honored by the Board of Directors with a proclamation naming him as Director Emeritus and continuing in this position until his death. In 1996 he was honored in Dallas by the Texas Bankers Association for working more than fifty years in the banking Industry. Out of the Eight Bankers honored he was the only one who had been with the same bank for the duration. Survivors include his wife Ruth Yates of Temple two sons Dale Yates, Jr. and wife Vesta of Temple and son Leland Yates and wife Yumiko of Albuquerque, New Mexico, three Step-Daughters Carol McDaniel of Temple Karen Schlickeiser, of Holland and Sharon Kiesling of Thorndale, one stepson Kenny Maddux of Temple. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 10 Step-Grandchildren;11 great-grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren. Mr. Yates is also survived by one sister Evelyn Barnett of Perryton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Lloyd, Don and Leland. A family visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Sunday January 27, 2008 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.
