
OBITUARY DAVID F.S. EANES, JR., M.D. David F.S. Eanes, Jr., M.D. 92, of Temple died Friday February 2, 2007 in a Temple care center. Graveside services for Dr. Eanes will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday February 6, 2007 at the Floca Pavilion at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple with Rev. Margaret Boles officiating. Dr. Eanes was born December 31, 1914 in Galloway, Arkansas to David F.S. Eanes, Sr. and Cleola V. Calk Eanes. He attended elementary and secondary schools in the greater Little Rock area, graduating from Mabelvale High School. He then attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, earning a Bachelor of Science in Medicine. He met Ruth I. Robinson of Tulsa, Oklahoma while both were attending the University of Arkansas and they were married on February 1, 1939. Upon graduating from college they moved to Little Rock where he attended the University Of Arkansas School Of Medicine, earning a Doctor of Medicine degree. After graduating from medical school, he and his wife moved to Temple, Texas where he did his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Scott & White Hospital. He then served in the United States Army Medical Corps until he was honorably discharged after the end of World War II. He was stationed in Tokyo, Japan with the U.S. Occupation Forces at the time of his separation from active duty in the Army. Upon returning to civilian life, he and his wife moved back to Temple, Texas where he entered private practice, opening his own clinic. He loved practicing medicine and only reluctantly retired at 72 years old. Up until a week before he died, he was able to recognize his former patients and always enjoyed speaking with them. Dr. Eanes was a lifelong aviation enthusiast. He was an FAA medical examiner and held a multi-engine, commercial, instrument license. He owned and flew his own twin-engine aircraft for many years. He also loved hunting, boating, and golfing with his family and friends. Even more than these, he loved playing the piano, especially jazz, and did so every day he could. Dr. Eanes was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Temple, Texas. Dr. Eanes is survived by his beloved wife Ruth and his four children David F.S. Eanes, III, MD and his wife Karie of McAllen, Texas, Gary E. Eanes of Austin, Texas Judith C. Eanes Duke of San Antonio, Texas (widow of Daniel G. Duke, MD) and James A Eanes of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren Gary D. Eanes of Austin, Texas Lisa D. Duke of San Antonio, Texas, David T. Eanes and his wife Leslie and Samuel D. Eanes of McAllen, Texas; one great grandson Eathan D. Eanes son of David and Leslie Eanes. He was preceded in death by one grandson Daniel B. Duke. The family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church 12 West French Temple, Texas 76501 Scanio-Harper Funeral Home of Temple is in charge of arrangements.
