Dolores was born on July 30, 1928, in Bloomington, Illinois, to William Leslie and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Galloway) Sweeney. Growing up in a large and loving family, she was one of six children. Her upbringing shaped her into a woman known for her kindness, strength, and deep devotion to those she loved.
She married the love of her life, John H. Friesner, Jr., whom she met at church, and together they built a beautiful family rooted in faith, hard work, and unwavering love. John preceded her in death in 2007, and their reunion is surely a joyful one. She was a gifted pianist and vocalist, trained in opera and blessed with a natural talent that touched everyone who heard her. She shared her music generously—playing piano in many of the churches they attended and filling countless family gatherings with beloved hymns, gospel favorites, and timeless classics. Music was one of her greatest joys, and she used it to bring comfort, celebration, and warmth to others, while also playing for the elderly at Sammons Senior Center and Meridian (Morada) Senior Center as well.
Beyond her musical talents, Mom also had an adventurous spirit. She was a motorcycle rider from a young age, and enjoyed spending time with the Christian Motorcycle Club, they spent many miles together on the open road. Their rides brought them joy, companionship, and unforgettable memories during vacations and weekend adventures.
She was preceded in death by her husband John H. Friesner, Jr.; her five siblings, and her son Vincent Leslie Friesner.
Dolores is survived by her two children, each of whom brought great pride to her life, Kimberly Annette Friesner McBroom and husband Jim, and John Luke Friesner and wife Joyce.
She was blessed with a large and vibrant family, including 8 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her gentle spirit and the stories she carried from generations past.
Dolores lived a long and meaningful life, filled with love, resilience, and a quiet grace that touched all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured and the countless warm memories she leaves behind.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved. The family rests assured that God has given their mother eternal life through Jesus Christ, her Savior. She was ready to go and be with Him.
