

Donald "Danny" R. Forney went to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 29, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Deacon Bill Smetana officiating. Burial will follow at Seaton Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00pm Monday with a rosary at 7:00 at the funeral home. Danny was born in Brimfield, IL on January 24, 1923, to John and Maude Mulvaney Forney. He served in the US Army from 1940 through 1945 and was stationed in Ft. Lewis, WA, and made Corporal by an "Act of Congress". He was a member of the 9th and 4th Armored Divisions, 3rd Infantry, 14th Reconnaissance Battalion, 18th and 32nd Squadron attached to the 82nd Airborne, Troop Group C, 2nd Platoon and was a Staff Sergeant Platoon Leader of 28 men. Danny served in the European Campaign and the Battle of Northern Africa, Normandy Invasion of Omaha Beach, Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne, Belgium, The Ardennes, The Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received many awards including a Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, two Presidential Citations, American Defense Service Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European African-Middle Eastern Theater, two Overseas Service Stripes, one Service Stripe, and Good Conduct Medal. Danny was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was active in the community and an adult leader in 4H. He retired from Gidden Distributing in 1986. Danny was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rita; brothers Gerald and Bob; sons "Baby Boy" and "Ronnie" Donald Jr. Survivors include wife, Georgia; daughter, Carolyn Hubbell and husband David; sons, John Forney and wife Donna and David Forney and wife Darla; stepdaughter, Michele Turner and husband Gary; stepsons Mark Martin and wife Jan and Keith Martin and wife Katrina; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Danny's name to The Ronald McDonald House.
