Donita Jo Easley of Temple died Monday, October 2nd at home with her loved ones by her side. She was born February 4th, 1939 to Joe and Geraldine “Gerry” Dukatnik, and went to Temple High School where she was a cheerleader and graduated in May of 1957. On August 30, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Jimmy “Sonno” Easley. Together they owned Wayne’s Kwik Stop after she retired from Temple Tag after many years of employment.
Known affectionately as “Mamie,” she is survived by her children, Terry Easley (Sherry), Shari Sefcik (Gary), Steven Easley (Terrie), Grandchildren Sam Lopez (Tori), Jacob Easley, Kacie Lewey (Bryant) and Meagan Easley, great-grandsons Parker Easley and Aiden Lopez. Also her Sisters in law-Lyn Dukatnik and Susie Dukatnik.
Donita loved to love people and was known as Mamie to many—kin or otherwise. She is fondly remembered as a “stubborn old gal” who was tough as nails and filled with unconditional love. She saw the best in everyone, even if we couldn’t see it for ourselves. Mamie could cut the head off a rattlesnake without losing the ash on her cigarette and still have a warm meal prepared for anyone who was hungry. Mamie modeled how to be a strong woman while still caring for others.
Always a sharp dressed woman, Donita was a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant for a while, and a talented artist. She loved to read, change the color of her hair, and watch football with her family. Donita made many trips with her friends and family to favorite gambling spots until her health started to decline. She loved chasing her grandkids around their property in Davilla and having her family gather for holidays and special occasions.
She was welcomed to Heaven by her husband Sonno, parents Joe and Gerry, brothers Jerry Lane (Bubba) and Jamie Ronald (Duke), and granddaughter Hannah Easley.
The family would like to thank Carol Derry, Lynn Dekatnik and the team of caring and loving professionals of Enhabit Hospice, Most especially Teresa Gaines, Viktoria, Kerri and Chaplain Georgia for taking care of not only Mamie, but our entire family during the last difficult days.
Visitation: Wednesday October 4th, from 5-7pm at Scanio Harper Funeral Home.
Funeral: Thursday October 5th, 10:00 am at Scanio Harper Funeral Home.
