Earl D. McConnell

Earl D. McConnell, age 88 of Temple, died Thursday, March 24, 2016 in a local care center.  A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, March 28th at Bellwood Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. Ken Ritchie officiating.  Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Saturday, March 26th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.   Mr. McConnell was born May 1, 1927 in Bonham, Texas.  He was a longtime resident of Temple.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII where he served in China.  He married Ruby Meyer on January 3, 1949.  He managed and owned 7-11 stores in several states.  He suffered a stroke many years ago and was past president of the Temple Stroke Club.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Temple.   He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Douglas Gene McConnell in 2013.  Survivors include his wife, Ruby McConnell of Temple, two sons, David McConnell and wife, Nancy of Costa Mesa, California and James McConnell of Temple, one daughter, Cathy McConnell of Temple and one granddaughter, Katie McConnell.  Also surviving is one sister, Daphadeen Davison of Temple.    Memorial donations may be made to Presbyterian Children’s Home or First Presbyterian Church.
