

Memorial services for Edith Tarpley Brown, 91, of Temple will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Grace Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kathy Vineyard and Dr. Thomas Allen officiating. Private burial will be in Bellwood Memorial Park. Mrs. Brown died Wednesday at her residence. Mrs. Brown was born in Celeste, Texas August 2, 1919 to Thomas Byron Mobley and Lula May Rambo Mobley. She moved to McKinney at the age of 3. She married Melvin M. Tarpley in 1939 in Frisco. He preceded her in death. She then married Vinson E. Brown in 1975. She was co-owner of Tarpley Electronics for 37 years and retired in 1983. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and was involved in Prime Time Ministry to Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes. She was also involved in Meals on Wheels. She was a charter member of Altrusa International of Temple since 1959, where she served as President two times. She also received the Altrusa International Lamplighter Award On January 16, 2002 Temple declared Edith Tarpley Brown Day in honor and recognition for service to the Community through Altrusa International. She also served as President of Central Texas Chapter of Texas Electronics Association. She was one of the first ladies to join the Temple Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include her sister Ruth Cave of Dallas; five nieces Brenda Reeves of Austin, Jane Sadek of Dallas, Susan Kennedy of Garland, Norma Higginbotham of Flower Mound and Judy Brundidge of Tyler. Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church or to Altrusa International of Temple. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
