

G. C. Slough, age 88, moved from this life into his eternal home in heaven on Saturday June 25, 2011. G. C. was born in Goldsboro, November 4, 1922. He was the son of Nancy Melissa Wade Slough and Grover Cleveland Slough. He served three years in the U. S. Army in the Philippines during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. G. C. and his wife, Durinda Jane Lillard Slough, were married on October 1, 1953 in Casper, Wyoming by Reverend Dr. Charles Bream. She preceded him in death on January 26, 2008. G. C. received Christ as his Savior and Lord as a young adult. He was baptized by his pastor, Reverend Bill Simmons at the First Baptist Church in Wadford City, North Dakota in 1956. He and Durinda moved to Temple in 1956, and shortly thereafter he founded and operated Shallow Ford Construction Company of Temple until he sold the company at his retirement in 1981. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters, Dolly Slough Harris, Wade M. Slough, Bud Slough, Myrtle Slough Cooper and Cleo Slough Saverance. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his sister, Clesa Jean Szostkowski of Shawnee, Oklahoma, his daughter, Marsha Miller of Coleman, two grandsons, one granddaughter, four great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many friends and loved ones. G. C. and Durinda became members of Memorial Baptist Church on December 10, 1956, and served faithfully for over fifty years. Pallbearers will be Dick Stafford, Houston Brown, Don Davis, Bob McQueen, Mike McMurtry and David Bird. A family visitation will be held from 7:00- 8:30 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the Memorial Baptist Church in Temple with the Reverend Roy Parker and Reverend Michael Meadows officiating. Burial will be Wednesday at the Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers those who wish can make donations in G. C.'s memory to the Building Fund of Memorial Baptist Church, 6161 S. 5th Street, Temple, Texas 76502 or the charity of your choice.
