Homer Ray Smith, age 88, of Temple died Friday, September 23, 2011 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 26 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2:00 - 4:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was born on July 23, 1923 in Pendleton to J. W. and Pruda (Smithson) Smith. He graduated from Troy High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during WWII. He married Faye Sharp on May 22, 1943. They were longtime residents of Rockdale where he worked for Alcoa Aluminum for many years. After retirement they moved to Temple in 2000. He was a member of the Leon Valley Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Faye Smith and one son, Larry R. Smith and wife, Sandy of Fairfield, two grandchildren, Melissa Knight of Longview and Glen R. Smith of Freehold, New Jersey. Also surviving are two sisters, Annie Hines and Wilma Flynn both of Temple and one brother, Billy Smith and wife, Joyce of Waco. Memorial donations may be made to one's favorite charity.
