Jacqueline Louise Curtis, lovingly known as Jackie and “Mima,” was born on July 17, 1956, in La Mesa, California, to Jack and Betty Juanell (Griffin) Cheeseman. She was welcomed into the world by her older brother, Dan, and her sister, Rhonda. Jackie’s childhood was filled with a love for horses and dogs, countless hours spent playing outside, and cherished summers with her grandparents.
She graduated from Vista High School in 1974 and later moved to Texas, where she devoted her life to raising her three children—Joseph, Jason, and Janette—who were always the center of her world.
In 1998, Jackie settled in Temple, Texas. She dedicated more than twenty years of service to Scott & White Hospital, where her kindness and compassion touched many lives. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Temple, TX.
Following her retirement, her greatest joy was found in caring for her grandchildren and spending treasured time with her sister, Rhonda. Jackie and Rhonda shared life’s simple pleasures—coffee together, enjoying movies, and conversations filled with both laughter and tears.
Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Jack Cheeseman; her stepfather, William Tarver; her mother, Betty Tarver; and her beloved daughter, Janette Curtis.
She is survived by her children, Joseph Curtis and his wife, Alysa, and Jason Curtis and his wife, Amayah. Jackie’s greatest joy was being “Mima” to her grandchildren: Josie, Bentley Joe, Brysen, Kion, Elaina, Waylon, Merlin, and Allan. She is also survived by her only sister and best friend, Rhonda Diaz, as well as her brothers, Dan Cheeseman, Lee Tarver, and Chad Tarver. Jackie leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews, spanning three generations, who loved her dearly.
To her family and friends, Jackie was selfless and steadfast. She had a gift for listening, always knowing just the right words to bring comfort and peace. To her grandchildren, she was the best Mima—filling their days with laughter, arts and crafts, games, and TV shows that will forever be remembered with love. To her daughters-in-law, Jackie was supportive, kind, and unwavering in her love. And to her sons, Joe and Jason, she was the sweetest, most devoted example of God’s relentless love.
Jackie’s gentle spirit, unwavering devotion, and selfless care will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her love will forever be their guide.
A memorial service for Jackie will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1401 W Central Ave, Temple, TX 76504.
