

James Robert Sharp, Sr., a Mason, father, grandfather, retired EXXON employee was born June 4, 1926 in Rogers, Texas. Mr. Sharp passed away May 8, 2016. Mr. Sharp was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Joann Duddlesten. Surviving him are his sons, James Robert Sharp, Jr. and Roy Edward Sharp. brothers William Sharp, Winston Sharp, and sister, Joann Holliman. He is also survived by his daughter-in-laws, Elizabeth Sharp and Rita Sharp, grandchildren, Robert Charles Sharp and Rachael Elizabethn Sharp, and two great grandsons, Oliver Gray Sharp and Joel Odin Sharp. During World War II, he served as a Combat Engineer in the Third Army, under General George S. Patton’s command. After the war he went to work for the Humble Oil Company and moved to south Louisiana. He worked as a derrick man and later worked for EXXON on oil production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. He served as a Scoutmaster for Troop I sponsored by the United Methodist Church of Franklin, Louisiana. He was active in Freemasonry for over 60 years. He was a member of Franklin Lodge #57, Franklin, LA; King Solmon Lodge1427, Temple, TX ; and Warwick Lodge #336, Newport News, VA. He received many awards in Masonry, including the Golden Trowel Award from Marlin Lodge #152 for his work there. Several years after his retirement from EXXON he owned and operated a small ranch with his brother Winston. James was a quiet man of great faith and was always ready to assist others. He championed his family and always sought to support whatever efforts they were engaged in. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of the following: Vista Youth Camp Unashamed in care of Vista Community Church in Temple, Texas, Louisiana University at Lafayette or the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday May 14, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Internment will be at the Sharp family plot at the Davilla Cemetary in Davilla, Texas.
