Janet Lee Gandy Steele Murphy

Janet Lee Gandy Steele Murphy, age 63 of Belton, a lifelong Central Texas resident, went to rest on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 while at her home in Belton.  She was cared for and embraced by her husband, family and close friends through her journey's end.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 25th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Pastor Ardene Wuthrich officiating.  Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday, June 24th at the funeral home.  Private burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mrs. Murphy was born at King’s Daughters Hospital in Temple on November 18, 1955 to Willard and Mildred Gandy.  She attended Scott Elementary, Travis Jr. High and Temple High School.  Janet met and married Steven Steele in 1982 and they were happily married for 21 years before Steve's untimely death in 2003. Together with their five children, they enjoyed boating on Lake Belton and trips to softball and bowling tournaments.

Janet was employed for many years as a buyer for McLane SW and was also the Bakery Manager for Albertson's Grocery.  In 2006, Janet met Michael Murphy and they were married on December 6, 2008.

They spent time at their lake house on Inks Lake, enjoying friends and family and traveling extensively throughout the U. S., Paris, London, Ireland and Hawaii.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Temple.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Murphy of Belton, parents, Willard and Mildred Gandy of Temple, four sons, Bobby Steele and wife, Tracie and Willard Steele and wife, Katelyn both of Temple, Steven Steele and wife, Miranda of Academy and Terry Steele and wife, Anna of Jarrell and two daughters, Lacy Borgeson and husband, Chuck of Rogers and Yong-Ae Steele of Abilene, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Also surviving is one brother, Gary Gandy of Rogers, Arkansas and one sister, Linda Guthrie and husband, Dennis of Temple, brother-in-law, Sean Murphy of Orlando, FL and a beloved sister-in-law and true friend, Marion Lauretti of Belton.  She also leaves behind her beloved pets, Penny, Lily, Winston and Clementine.
