Nina was born December 19, 1937, in Cleburne, Texas, to Merritte and Vivienne (Baskett) Barron. She was Baptized at Highland Church of Christ in Abilene at 13 years old along with her sister Sharon, by E.R. Harper, minister at Highland. She married Marion Truitt in Abilene, Texas on February 11, 1956, residing there her entire life until moving to “the land place” in Temple in November 2013. Nina served thirty plus years as Director of Volunteer Services at Abilene State School, Abilene, Texas. She became a church member of Western Hills Church of Christ after moving to Temple. Before that, she and Marion were longtime members of Buffalo Gap Church of Christ, just outside of Abilene. Nina lived her entire life totally dedicated to her husband Marion, to their home they shared for 69 years, and to their children Cindy, Tim, Lesa, and Scott, and now grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Cindy Truitt Berrier in 2014.
Nina is survived by her husband of 69 years Marion Truitt, and their children Tim and Marla Truitt of Temple, Texas; Lesa Truitt of Dallas, Texas; and Scott and Stacy Truitt of Abilene, Texas; one sister Sharon Foster of McKinney, Texas; one sister-in-law Lona Cundieff and her husband John of Jacksonville, Texas; one son-in-law David Berrier and his wife Debi of Leander, Texas; Nina was a special Mimi to all of her grandchildren; Jay and Jill Hailey of Chesapeake, Virginia; Brian and Angela Hailey of Cedar Park, Texas; Jeffery and Natasha Berrier of Cedar Park, Texas; Keil Berrier of Leander, Texas; Amanda and Jacob Ferrell of Temple, Texas; Taylor and Shannon Truitt of Houston, Texas; Kimberly and Hunter Smith of Brookshire, Texas; and Bradley Truitt and fiancé Caroline Murray of Buda, Texas. Nina was also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and loved by many within her “chosen” family of close friends and members of her church family from Western Hills Church of Christ in Temple as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She always knew family as the greatest blessing God gives. Nina and Marion served their God throughout their entire married life—always together!
A memorial service will be held in Abilene at a later date.
