John Melton "Jack" Chambers, age 64, of Bartlett died Wednesday October 21, 2009 in a Temple hospital. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 26 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be 1:00 PM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Chambers was born on April 7, 1945 in Brownwood to Melton and Kathryn Melinda (Grundy) Chambers. He was reared and educated in Brownwood. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a former resident of Brighton, Tennessee and Big Spring, Texas. He had been a resident of Bartlett for the past two years. He was employed as a truck driver for Praxair, Inc. before his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Liduia L. Chambers of Bartlett, one son, Julian Ray Shadell of Bartlett, two daughters, Gina Smits and husband, Daniel of Franklin, Mass., Lori Wood of Bartlett and three grandchildren, Richard McCage, Jr., Dalton Dodson and Alyssa Wood. Also surviving is one sister, Janice Blackwood and husband, Bobby of Jarrell. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
