Joseph LeRoy West

Joseph LeRoy West, age 77, of Troy died Saturday, August 21, 2010 in a Waco nursing center. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 24, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Mike McMurtry and Rev. Harlan Haines officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Roberts Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 - 7:30 PM Monday at the funeral home. Mr. West was born on September 8, 1932 in Keswick, Iowa to Ival and Laurine (Trusler) West. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Marguerite Whetstine on July 26, 1954 in Galesburg, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 6, 1989. He married Barbara Jean Petty on March 12, 1992 in Troy and she died on November 10, 1999. He had been a resident of Troy since 1977. He was employed as a custodian for Troy ISD retiring in 2003. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Troy since 1977 and was a member of American Legion Post #133 in Temple. He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael LeRoy West, one grandson, Joseph LeRoy Kay in 1978, one brother, Harry West and one sister, Helen Bates. Survivors include three daughters, Beth McMurtry and husband, Gary of Troy, Jo Ann Cromeans and husband, Frank of Lott and Anita Ann Rhodes and husband, Terry of Kansas City, Kansas, two sons, Gary L. West and wife, Regina of Temple and James L. Decker and wife, Gloria of Eddyville, Iowa, 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two stepsons, William Edwards and wife, Amy of Eddy and Christopher Edwards and wife, Brandi of Temple. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Shaun McMurtry, Jason Sheffler, Josiah Sheffler, Anthony Dear, Joshua Dear, Brian Dear, Terry West, David West, Shane Mykel West, Codie West and Chad West. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Troy.
