Leroy Placker

Leroy Placker, age 78 of Moody, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015 in a local care center. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 30, at Temple Christian Center with Rev. Kerry Sharp officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mr. Placker was born in 1937 in Goodrich, Texas, to John and Emma Placker. He briefly served in the Marine Corps and then spent the rest of his life working as a master carpenter for various employers. He was very active in his church, Temple Christian Center, and was even responsible for a good deal of its construction. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. The greatest loves of his life were Jesus, his wife Tiny, and their very large, blended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John "JB" Placker, his son Ernie Placker, and three grandchildren - Melissa Lee, Katherine Taylor, and Joseph Cardoza. He is survived by his wife, Joyce "Tiny" Placker, his children: Cynthia Conley and husband, Walter of Moody, Susie Placker of Texas City, Nikki Ladden and husband, Bruce of Austin, Michael Placker of Long Beach, CA, Lavonda Cardoza and husband, Joe of Moody, Paul Carroll and wife, Alice of Hardin, David Carroll and wife, Nadine of Troy, and Kathleen Taylor and husband, Ray of Gatesville, 38 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous members of the extended family.
