R. John Burns, age 88 of Temple, formerly of Georgetown, died Sunday, June 23, 2019 at a local hospital. Services, with military honors, will be at 1:00pm Monday, July 1, 2019 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
Mr. Burns was born Born in Clay Center, KS on Oct 3, 1930 to the late Robert Burns and Olga Hedlind Burns. He attended primary and High School in Clay Center and was a graduate of Kansas State University. He married Nancy Kay Davis in 1981 and she preceded him in death on October 10, 2003. He retired from the United States Air Force, serving 2 tours in Vietnam. He last served in the Strategic Air Command center at Randolf AFB in San Antonio before retiring. After retirement, he worked as a substance abuse counselor in Houston and moved to Sun City in Georgetown in 2003.
Survivors include his children, Stephen Burns of Amherst, MA, Matthew Burns of Austin, TX, Katherine Burns Nolting, Georgetown, TX and Lesley Tatro, Moody, TX and eight grandchildren.
