

MARGARET EDNA SYMM YOUNG, was born on June 15, 1925 in The Grove, Texas to Wendish and German immigrants from Germany, William Henry Symm and Martha Louise Schkade Symm. Margaret was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in The Grove, Texas on June 28, 1925. She was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church on April 2, 1939 by Pastor William Remmert. Margaret's confirmation verse given to her on that day was John 10: 27 and 28, "My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me and I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand". Margaret Symm married her high school sweetheart, Ray Nathaniel Young at St. Paul Lutheran Church in The Grove, Texas on November 14, 1943. Margaret and Ray had five children, Ray Nathaniel Young, Jr., Barbara Ann Young, James Arthur Young, Earlene Zaola Young Lambeth, and Ricky Van Young. Margaret graduated from Evant High School in Evant, Texas. In Margaret and Ray's early married years they lived in Hamilton, Texas before moving to West Texas where Ray worked in the oil industry. They moved with the oil industry to Marshall, Texas, Bakersfield, California, Palestine, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. Margaret enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, and cooking. Her special interests were making Christian church banners and relief quilts for the Lutheran World Relief and serving the Lutheran Church with altar duties, maintaining flower beds, and cleaning. She had a love of family and playing dominos. Margaret particularly was known for "making something" out of nothing and had learned at an early age to be thrifty and pinch pennies. Margaret's husband of fifty years, Ray Nathaniel Young, her mother and father, Martha and William (Bill) Symm of The Grove, Texas, her brother, George Symm of Fort Worth, Texas, and her sisters, Ruth Symm Draeger and Pearl Symm Arnold preceded Margaret in death. Family includes Ray and Carol Young of Austin, Texas, Barbara Young and Michael Screws of Pflugerville, Texas, James and Louise Young of Shreveport, Louisiana, Brian and Earlene Lambeth of Austin, Texas, and Ricky and Amy Young of Georgetown, Texas. Margaret was loved by her grandchildren, Stephen Young, Brian Young, Jason Page, Jennifer Young Duvall, Joel Young, Casey Skelton, Thomas Skelton, Rachel Skelton, Natalie Skelton, Christine Lambeth, Brady Lambeth, Chris Young, Jared Young, and Derrick Young. Margaret had many great grandchildren. Margaret had a wonderful extended family of nieces and nephews. Margaret peacefully passed away in Round Rock, Texas on New Year's Day, January 1, 2012. Visitation will be held at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home located at 3110 Airport Road in Temple, Texas 76504 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, January 6, 2012. . Pallbearers are Margaret's grandsons (listed above) and honorary pall bearers are her nephews, Larry Young of Houston, TX and Dewayne Draeger of The Grove, TX.
