Margie Lou Powell

Margie Lou Marshall Powell, age 84, of Temple died Wednesday, August 23, 2006 in Temple. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 26, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Winsman officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 – 8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Powell was born August 30, 1921 in Heidenheimer to Thomas D. and Neoma Fields Marshall. She attended school at Heidenheimer and graduated from Temple High School. She worked for Temple Life Insurance Company and for the Soil Conservation Service for 12 years. She married Vernon T. Powell on March 11, 1951. He preceded her in death September 12, 1992. Mrs. Powell was an active member of Ocker Brethren Church at Zabcikville and had served on the Board of Elders. She was also a member of the Temple American Legion Auxiliary. In 1967, she helped to organize The ARC of Bell County, an advocacy group for the mentally challenged and remained an active member until her health began to fail. Survivors include two sons, Marshall (Skip) Powell of San Jose, CA, Tommy Powell of Temple, one daughter, Patti Kleypas of Salado, three grandchildren and two step grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bob Mahler, Terry Coots, Ronny Mikeska, David Rouse, Mike Hoelscher and Ron Winsman.
