Mary Elizabeth Mayfield

Mrs. Mayfield passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Mary was born on April 11, 1929, in Lawrenceville, Illinois to the late Charles Rice and Opal Blue Rice. A devoted homemaker, Mary was known for her dedication to family and her active role in helping raise registered Hereford cattle. Her nurturing spirit and strong faith were guiding lights to those who knew her.

She was a faithful member of County Line Baptist Church and previously a longtime member of Val Verde Baptist Church. Mary’s life was one of quiet strength, compassion, and commitment to both her family and her faith.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David M. Mayfield, Jr.; her parents; two sisters; and one brother.

Mary is survived by her son, Thomas Blakley Mayfield of Buckholts; her sister, Naomi Ruth Brown of Lansing, Michigan; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to JR and Angie Peace, her “adopted grandkids,” as well as the caring team at Gentiva Hospice, especially Annette, Michelle, Leisa, and Rachael, for their kindness and support during her final days.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.

Mary will be remembered with love and gratitude for the joy, strength, and grace she brought to the lives of all who knew her.
