
Michael Darren Romain, 48 of Morgan's Point Resort died in Iraq December 1, 2008 13 Days before he was scheduled to return home. Funeral services for Michael will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday December 11, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Belton with Rev. Andy Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. Michael was born in Pasadena, Texas July 22,1960 the son of Monte and Joan Romain. He graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 1978. He married his first wife in 1981 and had two sons Jason and Ryan Romain. Michael joined the Army in 1987 and served ten years active duty during which time he served in Operation Desert Storm and received many awards to include NCO of the year for 1994 while stationed at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa Florida. He began his career with General Dynamics in 1997 as a communications specialist working as a contractor with the military. Michael truly enjoyed his job even though it took him away from his family for months at a time, he was dedicated to his work. Michael had volunteered for the last three missions to Iraq. Michael was a true American Patriot and was willing to give his life for his country. Michael married his second wife Mona Stanford on November 27, 2005. They shared a fairy tale love story and had many plans for their future. Mona had two children Eric Pounders and Grace Llanos that were both very close to their stepfather. Michael leaves behind many people that loved him dearly and touched many lives. He was a loving father, grandfather and husband and will be greatly missed by all. Michael was preceded in death by his father Monte Romain and is survived by his wife Mona Romain of Morgan's Point his sons Jason Romain and wife Holly of Temple Ryan Romain and his wife Jennifer of Houston Stepson Eric Pounders of Belton Stepdaughter Grace Llanos and husband Andrew of Evans, Georgia his mother Joan Romain of Belton two step grand daughters one grandson and one step grandson and his beloved pet dogs Mutley and Toto. A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday December 9, 2008 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple Scanio-Harper Funeral Home of Temple is in charge of arrangements.
