When she was in her twenties, she joined an order in Pennsylvania and took her vows to become a nun. While she was a nun, she taught grade school students in a Catholic school. After nine years in her order, she spoke to her Mother Superior, and was given permission to leave the order. She felt that she needed time to reflect and discern on what God was calling her to do.
She eventually met an officer in the Army, Linton (Bill) Turner. They married and adopted two children during their marriage, Billy and Patty. She raised her children in the Catholic faith. She shared her love of God, her faith, and the Church with them.
She was a teacher at St. Mary for some time. When she finished teaching at St. Mary, she began working at St. Luke. She did so for many years, and was a member of the St. Luke Women’s Society. She loved to visit the nursing homes to bring Communion to the residents and pray with them. She also assisted the Priests when they went to the nursing homes.
Norma loved children and animals, especially cats and dogs. She took exceptional pleasure in being an “adopted” grandmother/great-grandmother. When she went to the nursing home, no matter how confused she was, she would always ask, “How are my babies, are they doing ok? They are so sweet and happy. I miss them.” They did visit her while she was there, and she had the biggest smile on her face. She absolutely loved them, and they loved her.
Norma enjoyed Solitaire, Sudoku, playing games with her friends from St. Luke, shopping, and going out to eat. Her biggest joy in this earthly life was going to daily Mass. She was a wonderful example of a good, solid Catholic Christian. She is home now with her family and friends who have gone before her.
Norma is preceded in death by her mother Nora, her father Frank, four siblings, and her two children, Billy and Patty. Those who are left behind to cherish her memory, are her son-in-law Steve Hines, and her God-son Michael Green, and various extended family members who sent her cards, flowers, gifts, and kept in touch with her over the years.
We want to thank St. Luke Catholic Church, all of her beloved Priests, Deacons, the Office Staff, and the St. Luke Women’s Society for all of their help and kindness. She loved her parish, and dearly missed it when she could no longer attend. We also want to thank the kind people at Garden Estates, Cornerstone Gardens, and Hospice for their care and expertise. And the people at Scanio Harper Funeral Home, for coordinating with St. Luke to help everything go smoothly.
In lieu of flowers, Masses for Norma Turner at St. Luke would be greatly appreciated.
Funeral Mass will be at St. Luke Catholic Church on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11:00 am; Rosary will be at 10:30am prior to the mass.
