

Richard E. Goodwin, age 89 of Temple, peacefully went to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at his residence. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the Northside Church of Christ with Minister Darrell Knight and Don Griesing officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Goodwin was born August 10, 1923 in Columbus, Ohio to Harry and Ella Smith Goodwin. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and then served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve until 1958. He retired from the Veterans Administration after many years of service. He was a long time member of the Northside Church of Christ in Temple, where he served as an Elder and teacher for over 30 years. Mr. Goodwin and his wife spent many hours visiting the sick and taking care of others. Some of their great joys were bowling, spending time with friends, and their grandkids. Survivors include his wife Marguerite of Temple; two sons, Rick and his wife Jimmie of Bertram, TX and Ed and his wife Donna of Meridian, TX; two granddaughters, Jennifer Kelley and husband Mark and their children Hannah and Brock of Meridian and Julie Gann and her husband Roy Dale and their son Austin of Temple; two sisters, Betty O'Farrell and husband Bud and Mary Lou Clary and husband Pete both of Ohio; two of his favorite nieces Linda Boyd of Ohio and Linda Hilliard of Belton, both kept in close touch with him and many other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Northside Church of Christ, 3401 N. 3rd Street, Temple, Texas 76501.
