

Roberto "Bob" Vazquez, age 54, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, following a courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born Jul. 14, 1961, in Edinburg, TX to Rogelio Vazquez and Teresa Gutierrez, and grew up in Washington State. He later served in the US Navy and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he met and married his wife of 27 years, Janet Rulona. Bob was a submariner for 10 years; 8 yrs in Pearl Harbor, HI, and the last 2 yrs in Bangor, WA on a Trident Class Nuclear Powered Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine. Bob started his civilian life in Texas and had worked at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose, and later with IBM Corp in Dallas. In 2001, Bob and his family relocated to Temple, TX to work for McLane Co. as a Communications Analyst. His job took him all over the country and he cherished his time working with his McLane family. Bob loved music of all genres, musical shows, and enjoyed karaoke with friends and family. His hobbies included collecting vinyl records, guns, old radios, cameras, and watches. He enjoyed watching old movies, and going to estate sales and flea markets. He also loved fast cars in his younger days. Most of all, he loved Hawaii and treasured his time visiting the islands with his family. Bob was funny, intelligent, and enjoyed life. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. Bob was preceded in death by his mother. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Melissa; a son, Ryan; his father, five sisters, Maricela, Carmen, Sil, Ruth, and Patty; a brother, Roy; nieces and nephews. He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten by his many friends who were like family to him and who he honored as such. The Vazquez family wishes to express special thanks to our dear family and friends who had rallied around him, and who have graciously supported us through this difficult time. Bob will be greatly missed, but his family is at peace knowing he is no longer in pain and is now at rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father. A Catholic funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 12 at Saint Luke Catholic Church in Temple with Fr. James Ekeocha. Fellowship and lunch will follow after the mass at the Parish Hall. Interment of his ashes will be at a later date in Hawaii.
