He loved meeting people and sharing his enthusiasm for his hometown. Sam always cared for everyone - helping in any way that he possibly could. He played such an important part in helping Temple grow. So many people have said that he was the 1st person that they met when they moved here. He was President, Chairman of the Board, Director, or on the Board of Governors, etc. of so many civic organizations, such as: Temple Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Central Texas, Christian Farms-Treehouse, Temple Civic Theater, Central Texas Better Business Bureau, Temple Salvation Army Corp., Children's Special Needs Network, St. Mary's School Trust Fund, Central Texas - Fort Hood Chapter, Association of the United States Army, Temple Lions Club, Cultural Activities Center, Gideons International and a member of Sons of the American Revolution; Descendents of San Jacinto; Hood's Texas Brigade Association; Sons of the Republic of Texas; Descendents of the War of 1812. He was an Elder, Trustee and Choir member for many years. Recently, he was given the Elder Emeritus Award for so many years of dedicated service. These are a few of his favorite things: He loved God. He loved his family and friends. He loved his hometown & his country. He loved sharing his God-given talent of singing. He loved Christmas, with presents; being the emcee for "Pioneer Day", the "St. Patrick's Day" party and performing in the Lions Club show; UT Longhorns; sailing, traveling, dinner at Lawry's and anything chocolate. He loved the laughing and loving moments with his family & friends. And in later years, he loved the quiet and reflective times spent with Fran.
