Stanley (Doodle) Kirk

Stanley (Doodle) Kirk, age 73 of Troy, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at his residence.  Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, March 17th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Leslie Byrd officiating.  Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park.  Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.   Mr. Kirk was born March 9, 1944 in Cameron to J. L. Kirk, Sr. and Flora Crouch Kirk.  He graduated from Cameron Yoe High School, Class of 1962.  He married Shirlyn Jean Pelzel on May 25, 1968 in Ben Arnold.  He had been a resident of Troy for the past 39 years.  He was a member of the Army National Guard for many years.  He worked as a dispatcher for Santa Fe Railroad for 22 years retiring in 1993.  After retirement from the railroad he worked as a dispatcher for Greatwide Transportation for 20 years retiring in 2013.  He coached girl’s softball and Little League baseball in Troy.  He played slow pitch softball for many years.  He also raised Longhorn cattle.  He was a member of Troy United Methodist Church.   He was preceded in death by his parents.  Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Kirk of Troy, one son, Kyle Kirk and wife, Amy and one daughter, Kristi Penny and husband, Greg and four grandsons, Garrett, Grayson, Dillyn and Jaiden all of Troy.  Also surviving are two brothers, J. L. Kirk, Jr. and Kenneth Kirk both of Cameron and one sister, Wanda Elliott and husband, Bobby of Rockdale.   The family would like to thank the Medical and Oncology Staff at Vasicek Cancer Center, the nurses on the 8th floor at Scott & White Hospital and Scott & White Hospice.   Memorial donations may be made to Scott & White Vasicek Cancer Center, 2401 S. 31st Street, Temple, TX 76508 in memory of Joel S.
