

Verda Lee Cameron, 89, of Temple died January 1, 2009 in a Temple Health Care Center. Services for Mrs. Cameron will be held at 11:00 AM Monday January 5, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temple with Father Ranjan Cletus officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 PM Monday at St. Monica's Catholic Church Cemetery in Cameron. A Rosary will be recited at 5:30 PM Sunday January 4, 2009 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, with a visitation to follow. Verda Lee was born November 17, 1919 in Cameron, Texas the daughter of Anton and Theresa Zielsdorf Stecher. She graduated from Providence Nursing School in 1941. She served as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army during W.W. II from Nov. 1942 to Mar. 1946 serving in Milne Bay and Lae, New Guinea. She was a retired RN for the V.A. Hospital in Temple. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temple. She married C.E. Cameron on February 3, 1948 in Temple and after 58 years he preceded her in death November 14, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings Florence Cykala and Robert Stecher. She is survived by two sons Michael of Salado and Paul of Temple. She is also survived by two grandchildren Blake and Paige Cameron and one brother Lane Stecher of Woodway as well as two daughters in laws Ruby Cameron of Salado and Kathy Cameron of Temple. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the St. Mary's Catholic Church 1019 South 9th Street Temple, Texas 76504.
