William "Bill" Hawkins, age 87, of Belton, Texas had the joy of going to see Jesus on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Bill was born June 16, 1927 to Marshall and Eska Hawkins at King's Daughters Hospital in Temple, the first caesarian section performed in Central Texas. An only child, he went on to graduate from Temple High School before becoming an engineer with Santa Fe Railroad. Bill had two precious daughters with his devoted first wife, Maxine, before her death in 1983. He sacrificed time away from his family in order to provide a good life for his children and grandchildren, and earning his retirement in 1988 from Santa Fe Railroad after 43 years. The fall of 1986, he married a very kind and loving woman, Ann, whom he cherished until his passing. In his spare time he loved being outdoors, working on his grandfather's family farm (with his dog by his side), and volunteering in many ways. He was proud to be a Mason through the Knob Creek Lodge of Temple and a Shriner through the Karem Shrine out of Waco for more than fifty years. His passion for working with his hands led him to the Bell Baptist Men, where he volunteered to do just about anything, but especially painting. He was a long time member and Deacon at Memorial Baptist Church. Bill is survived by his wife Anna Hawkins of Belton, TX, his two daughters; Mary Eska and husband Vernon Conner of Belton, TX and Martha Ruth and husband Tommy Richter of Belton, TX, and his step-son; Fred and wife Lillie Lowery of Temple, TX, grandchildren; George William with wife Lauren Knight Jr. of Texarkana, TX, Samantha with husband Ken DeVore of Yuba City, CA, Lea Ann with husband Trey Turner of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Jennifer with husband Matthew Sugars of San Antonio, TX, and great-grandchildren; Matthew, Gavin, Mayson Grace, Evelyn Darcy, Timothy, Bailey, Garrison, and Lorene. He will be missed dearly, but we know we will see him again one day in heaven, sticking out his tongue at us. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 5pm-7pm at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home: 3110 Airport Rd. Temple, TX. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 2pm at the funeral home with burial to follow at Greathouse Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Texas Baptist Men, 5351 Catron Dr. Dallas, TX 75227, would be appreciated.
