Douglas Michael McQueeney died on May 17, 2025. Doug was born on January 9, 1943, and grew up in Nutley, NJ. He graduated from Nutley High School in 1962, and served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966. From 1966-1975, Doug lived in Midland, Michigan. He earned an associate’s degree from Northwood Institute in 1968, and co-owned an auto body shop. Doug returned to New Jersey and lived in Toms River from the late 1970s until his death. Doug worked as a Parts Manager for Freightliner in Lakewood and as a Head Mechanic for Guest Shipping and Packaging in Rahway. He was married to Lin Swaen from 1977-2002. The couple had twin sons, Michael and Kevin, born in 1982.
Doug was an excellent mechanic and loved working on cars. He built his own house, and could fix almost anything. Doug was an avid flyer from the late 1960s through the early 1990s. He restored and owned a 1950 Cessna 170a, and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He served as a volunteer soccer coach for his sons’ youth teams; he valued fairness and equal playing time over winning. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Lexi and Logan. Doug enjoyed going to car shows with his best friend Pete; camping; reading; and listening to his extensive record collection. He was kind, always willing to help others, and very devoted to his family.
Doug is survived by his two sons, Michael McQueeney of Kentucky and Kevin McQueeney of New Orleans; his two grandchildren, Lexi and Logan of Toms River; his beloved sister Sharon Short and her husband Dean Short of Kingston, NY; and his niece Megan Richardson of Saratoga Springs, NY. He was predeceased by his parents George and Kay McQueeney.
A viewing will be held from 4-7 pm on May 22, 2025 at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home (26 Mule Road) in Toms River.
