At Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, we understand the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level Four Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, we are honored to serve our nation’s heroes and take this responsibility seriously. We have taken steps to ensure our staff is knowledgeable of all the benefits available to military veterans and their families.

In addition, we host community events annually in honor of our veterans and work closely with local veterans organizations. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran’s memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.

History

John J. Quinn began his career as a teenager, assisting in the sensitive removal of those who passed from the 1918-1919 influenza pandemic that claimed 675,000 lives. From drawing horse-drawn wagons to working in funeral homes, Mr. Quinn opened the John J. Quinn Funeral Home in Orange, New Jersey. At his death in 1955, his son, John J. Quinn Jr., assumed operations and built on his father’s success.

The Hopping impact

Wes Hopping opened the Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston, New Jersey, in 1945. After World War II, people began leaving the busy metropolitan area, moving into new homes in the previously rural area of Livingston. As Mr. Hopping planned to sell his establishment, John Jr. realized the future potential of this thriving community. Hopping Funeral Home was acquired in 1962 and an aggressive construction project began immediately to increase its size in order to serve a growing community.

Expansion to serve more people

As the people of Livingston and the surrounding areas began retiring to the shore area, a funeral home was constructed in Toms River to serve the newly built retirement communities of Holiday City and Silver Ridge. As the communities of Holiday City and Silver Ridge expanded, a much larger facility was constructed at its current location on Mule Rd.

In the 80s, John Jr. and his 2 sons, John J. Quinn III and Kevin Quinn, acquired additional funeral homes in Bergen, Hudson, Sussex and Ocean Counties. In 1997, the funeral homes joined the Dignity Memorial^® network, North America’s largest provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery services.
