Gerald “Jerry” P. Harney, Jr., 83, of Toms River, NJ passed away at his home on Thursday October15, 2020 while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Newark, NJ he was raised in Little Silver NJ before moving to Toms River in 1964. Jerry was a veteran of the US Marine Corp. He was a letter carrier for 33 years for the Toms River Post Office and then worked 20 years for the Toms River Board of Education as the head custodian at Cedar Grove Elementary School. Jerry was a devout member of Christ Episcopal Church in Toms River where he served as a head usher and also was a member of the Men’s Group and Couple’s Club.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Marjorie Hopwood Harney; his daughter Debbie Harney; his son Jerry Harney III and his wife Grail Harney; five grandchildren Kimberly Baynes and her husband Eddie, William Baxter and his wife Krystan, Thomas Baxter, Kayla Harney, and Jerry Harney IV; 4 great-grandchildren Quinn Baxter, Henry Baynes, Sophie Baxter and Maeve Baynes; his brother William Harney. He was predeceased by his two sisters Kathleen Silvers and Caroline Lamb.
