Born in Brooklyn, NY, Helen spent many joyful years there before marrying Thomas (Tom) Mulvey in 1948. Together, they built a loving home and raised two children. After Tom’s untimely passing, Helen found love again with Charles Brede (Charlie). Their marriage was filled with happiness, and in the early 1980s, they settled in Toms River, NJ. Helen was a beacon of positivity and warmth; she had a zest for life and was always game for anything. She cherished time with friends, especially playing dominos and cards, and enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City. Helen's enthusiasm for family gatherings was unmatched and she never missed planning the annual family trip to Cape May, NJ, where she spent time enjoying the ocean views and, of course, her Kohrs ice cream (chocolate ice cream with chocolate sprinkles), one of her favorite vacation traditions.
Helen was the matriarch of her family and her home was the heart of many family celebrations, filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. She is survived by her daughter Carol, son Tom (Sharon), granddaughters Jennifer (Ken) and Kimberly, and great-grandchildren Gavin and Olivia. Helen is predeceased by her grandson Michael. Helen was a loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
Helen and Charlie were longtime members of the bowling and bocci teams, and participated in both the Women’s and Men’s Clubs.
A devoted volunteer, Helen served as Chaplain for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, taking part in annual Christmas visits to VA Hospitals. She also volunteered with SWAN and was known as “Santa’s Helper,” answering phones during the holiday season.
Helen and Charlie were proud members of the Silver Ridge Westerly Homeowner’s Association, where they were active members of the community and held deep appreciation for their neighbors, who were also great friends. Helen was an original parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Rosary Society. She played a vital role in fundraising efforts for the church’s construction in 1985.
