

James Arnold Vavra passed away July 23rd after the latest in a series of illnesses. Born in Dallas, TX January 12, 1921, he was 1 of 7 children. He served as a Boatswain’s Mate on the Battleship USS Idaho during World War II. He met his late wife Ensign Marie Campbell, while convalescing from a war injury and together they raised 8 children. He had a long career working for JCP&L and retired as a General Line Forman in 1981 after 33 years. He is survived by 4 daughters Marylou O’Hara, Peggy Prohammer, Theresa Vanover and Judy Benson, 4 sons Martin, Peter, Jimmy and John, 3 brothers who still reside in Texas Harold, Alfred and Richard. He was Pop Pop to 14 grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. He is deeply missed by all.
Visiting will be held Wednesday from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River. A funeral service will be held 10 am Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lakewood. Contributions in her memory may be made to Van Dyke Hospice, c/o Community Medical Center, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
