John J. Gioia, 89, of Berkeley, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at his home. He was born in New York City, lived in Queens for most of his life before moving to Holiday City in 1991. Mr. Gioia was co-owner of Key Foods, Manhattan, N.Y. for 25 years, retiring in 1990. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, and a member of the Italian American Club of Holiday City.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Jean; three children, Janice, Peter, and Melinda; and seven grandchildren.
Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Berkeley. Cremation will be private.
