

John L. Tweed was born in Neptune, NJ, September 27, 1947 to Harry S. Tweed and Mary J. (Manniello) Tweed. He was a graduate of Neptune High School Class of '65. He served honorably in the US Air Force from 1965 to 1969 with the 456th SAC, Transportation Squadron. He credits much of the discipline, supervisory & management skills he had to that time. John also served one year in the NJ National Guard at the Freehold Armored Facility.
He is predeceased by his father and mother. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years Carolyn (Paans) Tweed, his brother Harry Jr., (Ellen) of Brick, sister Mary Jane Ambos of Neptune and three children, Jennifer (Josh) Mihaly, Christin (Todd) Marshall and Jonathan (Leslie) as well as three step children Jennifer (Phillippe), Kimberly (Michael) Morreale and Edward (Karyn) Joos. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews as well as a whole host of friends.
After 7 years in the delivery business, he became self-employed from October 1975 until his retirement in 2009. During that time he owned and operated 11 different businesses, but is most proud of his 34 years in the medical transportation industry. He was a lobbyist, a consultant and served as the Executive Director of the MTANJ until 2009 having been one of the founders in 1976.
John was involved with the Toms River and Seaside Park Democratic Clubs. One of his proudest moments was his appointment to the Toms River Township Committee in 1990. He remained active in Democratic politics in both Toms River and Seaside Park where he helped as Municipal Chairman. He was a communicant of St. Catharine of Siena, Seaside Park where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.
John always tried to be someone who brought a smile to people's faces, made them feel recognized, appreciated and special. He always tried to help others and wanted to work to make things better for the future generations.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 4-8 pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be said on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 10am at St. Catharine of Siena, Seaside Park followed by burial to the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
