Joseph Anthony Attara Korean War Veteran, Beloved Husband, Father, and Friend 1931 - 2025
Joseph Anthony Attara, a proud Korean War veteran and devoted family man, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, humor, and unwavering love.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, to Joseph and Helen Attara, Joe embodied the spirit of resilience and community. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force as a First Class Airman during the Korean War. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to the Middlesex Water Company, retiring in 1993 as a respected operator.
Joe shared 68 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Cecilia. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. A devout member of the Catholic Church, Joe and Cecilia served side by side as Eucharistic ministers and volunteers for Meals on Wheels, offering care and companionship to those in need. They also shared a deep love of travel, exploring new places and creating cherished memories across the country and beyond.
A true entrepreneur at heart, Joe was well known for owning and operating Joe's Hideaway in Brooklyn - a neighborhood staple remembered fondly by many. His ventures extended into real estate and other business pursuits, always guided by his strong work ethic and gregarious nature.
Joe was a gifted writer and poet, expressing his thoughts with creativity and depth. He had a remarkable sense of humor and a warm, generous spirit that touched all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cecilia; his children, daughter, Kathryn Curry (Attara) and her husband Michael Curry, and son, Michael Attara and his wife Colleen Attara; five grandchildren - Michael Curry and his wife Shea, Krista and her husband Derek, Tommy Curry and his wife Lindsay, Wyatt Attara, and Paige Attara - and five great-grandchildren who all adored him. He is predeceased by his son Joseph Attara and his sister Dorothy "Dottie" Attara.
Joseph Anthony Attara will be remembered as a man of integrity, humor, and heart - a veteran, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who led a life well-lived and well-loved.
Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, July 21, 2025 at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church 130 St. Maximilian Lane Toms River, NJ 08755. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Forest Green Cemetery 535 Texas Road Morganville, NJ 07751. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joseph's memory to the American Heart Association.
