

Joseph John Castner, 68, died Thursday August 13, at Suncoast Hospice. “It was his nature to blossom into song, as it is a tree’s to leaf itself in April”. Joseph was born on May 4, 1947, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Orange, NJ. He was a graduate of South Plainfield High School. After graduation and during the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and received his honorable discharge in April, 1968. Joe was a very talented musician and singer.
Joseph was predeceased by his father, Joseph A. Castner, his stepfather, Tyler L Groseclose, Jr., his brother, Michael P. Castner, his brother-in-law, John C. Baran, his aunt, Catherine Horan, his uncle, George Nardone and his cousin, George Nardone, Jr. He is survived by his mother Maureen O’Flaherty Groseclose, his brother, William J. Castner (Diane H.) of Toms River, his sisters, Carole Castner Baran (John, deceased), of Charlottesville, VA and Diane M. Castner (Susan Burnett) of Howardsville, VA and his brother, Thomas Castner (Rayda) of LaMesa, CA and his aunt, Theresa O’Flaherty Nardone of Nutley, NJ, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held on Monday August 31 from 10 AM to 11:30 AM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road, Toms River, NJ 08755. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
