Kathleen was born in Jersey City and raised in Bayonne. She lived and worked in the Borough of Roselle Park and upon retirement settled in Toms River. A graduate of Holy Family Academy, Bayonne and Jersey City State College, Jersey City, Kathleen continued her education and received a Master’s in Elementary Ed. She was one of the first group of teachers to receive the Governor of N.J. Teacher Recognition Award, which was presented by Governor Keane and a thousand dollar reward for the Borough of Roselle Park School District. She was a Lifetime Member of the International Reading Association, NJEA and Ocean County Retired Teachers Association member. She proudly worked as a classroom teacher, Reading Specialist and a mentor for 38 years in the Borough of Roselle Park Elementary Schools which included Sherman, Robert Gordon and Aldene.
Known for living a very energetic active life, she enjoyed laughter and fun adventures with her many friends and family. Kathleen was called Nana by her two grandchildren, Shannon Rose and Andrew Charles. They were her “world” and she had a very special bond with both of them.
Kathleen was the daughter of Helen and Francis Birmile.
Kathleen is survived by her daughter and spouse, Tara Delnero-Poggi and Andrew James Poggi; and her two grandchildren Shannon Rose Poggi and Andrew Charles Poggi.
Kathleen is also survived by her former husband of twenty-two years, Charles George Delnero, Jr., his wife Diane Delnero and Barbara Jean Delnero, former Sister-In-Law.
A special thank you to our cousins Regina Foley and Marie Foley-Danecker for their compassionate care and loving support. Thank you to “The Squad” Kathleen’s four close friends that provided help and support with her many treatment plans. We are very grateful for all of you.
Visitation will be held at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Toms River, 26 Mule Road, Toms River, on Sunday, November 17, from 1-3 P.M. and from 6-8 P.M.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:30 A.M. Funeral Liturgy on Monday, November 18, being celebrated at Saint Maximilian Kolbe Church, 130 Saint Maximilian Lane, Toms River.
