Born in Pforzheim, Germany, she immigrated to the United States in 1952, where she first resided in Hoboken. She lived in Jersey City and Secaucus prior to settling in the Holiday City community of Toms River 20 years ago.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Stephen; and her parents, Max and Frieda Augenstein.
Surviving are her children: Stephanie Renate Calabria and her husband Dominick, Carolyn Atlak and her husband Jerry, and Stephen Louis Chiamese; six grandchildren: Jennifer Markko, Michael Calabria, Thomas Atlak, Nicole Atlak Voelkel, and Michelle and Amanda Chiamese; her brother, Manfred Augenstein; several nieces and nephews; and her grand-doggies.
She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, with family being the most important thing to her. A role model for her family, she encouraged her children to be independent, strong, and kind to all. Every holiday was held at her home, where she enjoyed cooking a feast for her family. Renate loved sports, but her favorites were baseball and hockey, particularly the Yankees and the Tampa Bay Lightning. She enjoyed charitable work and often knitted blankets that she donated to hospice patients and nursing homes. Renate loved to frequent Atlantic City and also loved travelling with her family, having spent time in Europe and cruising. She enjoyed all of the "little things" and always lived life to the fullest.
