Born to the late David S. and Ann (Foerst) Taborn of Oakhurst, NJ, Bob graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1956. He continued his education, earning a B.S. in Business Administration from Muhlenberg College and MBA from Columbia University. He participated in sports throughout his academic years, including football, track, and as a lifeguard during summers at the Jersey Shore. He was also a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Bob joined Chase Manhattan Bank NY in 1963 as a trainee in the credit department, and advanced within the company, until eventually becoming Vice President of Chase World Trade. He then furthered his career in the legal industry as a senior administrator for firms that included Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen and Katz. When offered a position with Thompson, Hine & Flory LLP he and his wife Ann relocated to Cleveland, OH where he oversaw significant expansion of the firm during a period of rapid growth. The Cleveland Playhouse became very central to their lives and formed some of their fondest memories.
Upon retirement, Bob and Ann returned “home” to the Jersey Shore, traveled, and enjoyed winters in Florida. An avid civil war buff, he studied its’ history and made visits to historical sites, battlefields and national monuments. He loved golfing, the NY Yankees and Giants, his family, their many dogs and one very special “Sam Cat”.
He was first married to Barbara Sue Bennett (nee Kraus); and then to Ann (nee Edwards) for 44 years. He would ultimately become the very proud, supportive dad of a blended family of 7. Their home seemed always full of “family”, which extended to international exchange students they hosted over the years. Friends were always welcome, and none were ever expected to knock first.
Bob is predeceased by his beloved wife Ann (2019), his brother, David S. Taborn Jr (2024), and son-in-law Sheldon Babyatsky (2020).
He is survived by his daughters Peg Zawryt (Mark Lynch), Tracy Martisofski (Timmy), Kathleen Zawryt/Babyatsky (Vinnie Mandaro), Shelley DiDia (Gregg) and son John Taborn (Felicia). He is additionally survived by grandchildren Courtney, Kelsey, Christopher, Jamie, Ellen and Matthew, and great-grandchildren Charlie and Hayden.
He will be missed.
In keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no public service, but friends and family are requested to share a memory of him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made to a charity in support of animal welfare or shelter.
