Sonya B Higgins

 Sonya "Sonnie" Barbara Higgins, 77, of Berkeley Township, NJ passed away at Community Medical Center in the early morning on February 11th, 2023. Born in Newark, NJ Sonya was a 30+ year resident of Pine Brook, NJ before moving to Holiday Heights in 2007. She worked as a Scopist for almost 50 years before retiring in 2022.

Sonya was deeply devoted to her family and friends. She loved spending time with them at the Jersey Shore and in St. Pete Florida, shopping, dining out and celebrating her favorite time of year - Christmas. Her great grandchildren would always put a huge smile on her face as all babies did. Sonya had a passion for gardening and a very green thumb. She was an avid reader and had a special touch for decorating her home, especially for holidays. She was dedicated to the Roman Catholic Church and donated to numerous charities.

Sonya was predeceased by her father John Burda, mother Alice, brother Jack and grandson Sean Higgins.

Sonya is survived by her son Patrick and wife Terri, daughter Christina Alexis, granddaughters Chelsea Flitter, Kristy and Courtney Higgins, great grandchildren Veda and Henry and grandkitty Panda.

A Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 17, 2023 10:00 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Toms River with an interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.

The family has requested In lieu of flowers donations can be made to USO, American Cancer Society or Habitat for Humanity.
