Born in Bayonne, she resided in Toms River for most of her life before settling in Whiting about 3 years ago.
More than anything else in her life, her children were the most important. Family meant everything to her and loved being at home to cook, clean, and take care of them. Another great love in her life was Tim McGraw, who she was supposed to see in concert in June 2024.
Susan also loved her grandogs, Kira and Chance; and her grandcats, Maggie and Rosie. The youngest in her adult community, she spent much of her time helping her friends and neighbors who couldn't run errands on their own. Putting others before herself was a foundational part of who she was.
She was predeceased by her parents, Herman and Mary Johnson.
Surviving are her children: Ashlee Cortes, Danielle Cortes, and Christian Cortes; her siblings: Lori Kelly, Patricia Emslie, and Chris Johnson; her former husband, Diego Cortes; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A private cremation will be held under the direction of Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River.
