It is with deep love and gratitude that we announce the passing of Angela Catherine John-Baptiste, who left us peacefully on October 28, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 87.
Born on Christmas Day in 1937 in the Commonwealth of Dominica to Errol John-Baptiste and Ruth (née Hamilton), Angela carried throughout her life the warmth, generosity, and grace of the season she was born into. Christmas was her favourite time of year not only because she shared her birthday with Jesus Christ, but because it allowed her to show her enormous heart through gift-giving and acts of kindness that made others feel seen and valued.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Angela lived her life anchored in prayer. She prayed with friends, with family, and for anyone who needed strength or comfort. Her spiritual devotion was both her foundation and her gift to others.
Angela attended Convent High School in Dominica, where she formed lifelong friendships she maintained all the way through her final days. Throughout her journey from Dominica to Canada she kept cherished relationships with friends in New York, Boston, Florida, and beyond. These friends became family, and many were proudly present at her son’s wedding in California in 2004.
Angela was a devoted sister to Una John-Baptiste, whom she lovingly cared for through her battle with Alzheimer’s until Una’s passing on September 30, 2013. Her loyalty, compassion, and commitment to family never wavered.
As a single mother, Angela poured her entire heart and energy into raising her only son, Michael. She worked tirelessly to ensure he had every advantage including piano lessons, tennis lessons, academic enrichment, and opportunities typically reserved for the privileged. Through determination and sacrifice, she sent him to high school at St. Michael’s College School in downtown Toronto and later celebrated his university graduation from Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts with a degree in Economics. Angela was deeply proud of her son’s accomplishments, as well as those of her daughter-in-law, Alicia Fletcher John-Baptiste, whose achievements she embraced with joy, especially her balancing career and family.
Angela adored her two grandchildren, twins Paloma and Rostin, and took an active and loving interest in their academic, athletic, and personal pursuits. She celebrated every milestone and supported every ambition.
Angela is survived by her son Mike “JB” John-Baptiste and daughter-in-law Alicia Fletcher John-Baptiste, her beloved grandchildren Paloma and Rostin, and a wide circle of family and friends across Canada, the United States, England, and Dominica who will forever cherish her kindness, faith, and spirit.
Angela’s life was defined by generosity, perseverance, devotion to family, and a faith that never wavered. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to guide all who were blessed to know her.
